The city to receive coveted Forbes Travel Guide Hospitality Service Training Certification

MIAMI BEACH –– Miami Beach takes serving its guests seriously…really seriously. Miami Beach is like no other place in the world and is dedicated to making its service a major point of distinction; that’s why the entire tourism and hospitality community will meet for the largest ever interactive Hospitality Service Training led by Forbes Travel Guide, the prestigious Five-Star Rating system and global authority on luxury travel. After the intensive day of sessions, Miami Beach will become only the second city in the U.S. to ever receive a Forbes Travel Guide Hospitality Service Training Certification. The city of Miami Beach, ranked as one of the Top 25 Destinations in the U.S., along with the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority (MBVCA) and the Greater Miami and the Beaches Hotel Association (GMBHA) are partnering with Forbes Travel Guide to conduct the training.

As the originator of the Five-Star Rating system – beginning in 1958 as the Mobil Travel Guide – Forbes Travel Guide provides the travel industry’s most comprehensive ratings system in the world, along with reviews of hotels, restaurants and spas. A Forbes Travel Guide Star Rating is considered the hospitality industry’s most prestigious achievement. Going far beyond aesthetics, it places a large emphasis on quality of service. This certification will add yet another layer to Miami Beach’s already outstanding hospitality services, where hotels, restaurants and entertainment providers are always striving to enhance and augment the guest experience.

“The Forbes Travel Guide Hospitality Service Training Certification is internationally recognized and highly esteemed. We intend to bring a higher level of service to Miami Beach, set new standards and continue to exceed hospitality expectations,” says Peggy Benua, Chair of the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority. “With events like Miami Spice Month and Art Basel around the corner, the training comes at the perfect time to renew, energize and revitalize our hospitality industry. Focused on providing front line personnel in hospitality-focused businesses such as hotels, restaurants, attractions, and tour companies with professional guidelines and tailored teachings, the day-long event will be broken into four unique sessions that will highlight the Miami Beach customer satisfaction experience. Inzerillo, CEO of Forbes Travel Guide. “On a personal note, this area holds a special place in my heart. Miami Beach has long been considered a welcoming destination for all travelers. Why did the World OutGames choose Miami Beach as the host for the 2017 games? What made the city an attractive destination for the games?

We are thrilled to host America’s first ever World OutGames in the beautiful city of Miami Beach! Along with being a sporting event, we know that the World OutGames prides itself in its cultural and human rights efforts. Can you tell us more about how the games tackle those issues?

It is important to maintain open dialogue and shared points of view to foster unity and inclusiveness for all – it is especially relevant at this moment in time. As part of World OutGames Miami, thought leaders from around the globe will converge on Miami Beach for the 4th Global LGBTQI Human Rights Conference. This significant conference will offer a global view of human rights from 25 speakers representing Brazil, Cuba, Canada, St. Lucia, Thailand, Tonga, Uganda, United Kingdom, United States and Venezuela, among others. This powerful gathering of respected human rights activists, researchers, legal scholars and trade organizations will address more than 35 topics in the areas of Promoting Inclusivity in Sports, Health & Wellness and Social Justice.

In addition, our Culture pillar is shaping up to be an amazing program. Attendees will enjoy various cultural happenings planned over the 10-day long event including, Pulse Points on June 1, an artistic response to the Orlando massacre at Pulse Nightclub, fusing dance, music, poetry and visual arts to honor the 49 lives that were lost. Live entertainment, art exhibits, a poetry reading with Robert Pinsky, and a film festival are also planned. Opening and Closing Ceremonies will offer a taste of Miami Beach with special surprises. These events are open to the public, and you can purchase tickets online.

Which event are you most looking forward to watch?

PULSE POINTS – which will feature more than 200 performing artists at the New World Center Miami Beach – is shaping to be a truly amazing event that will touch World OutGames Miami attendees, patrons and guests in an unprecedented way as an act of social courage. This fully-immersive event will transform the iconic New World Center into an interactive, roving exhibition, offering a perpetual expression of reflection, empathy, healing and positive action. This will be a space free of racism and bias that will transform negativity into a courageous forward direction, sending a global message of compassion, hope and love. The event is on June 1 at 6pm!

What has it been like in getting everything ready for the 2017 games?

As we near the kick-off to this event, each day brings an exciting, new challenge. Thanks to the help of our staff, volunteers, individual and corporate supporters and the City of Miami Beach, the momentum continues to give me the certainty that this will be a successful, well-attended 10-day event.

Why do you love Miami Beach and what aspect of the destination are you most looking forward to showcase?

Visitors will find that there is much to discover in this beautiful city, whether that be the beach or many local flavors, which are our diverse people, amazing food and unique venues. Miami Beach is my home, and I am thrilled to show to the world how we are a very accepting, open-minded, multicultural city.

When do the games begin? How can our readers attend and support the World OutGames?

World OutGames events start on May 26 and the opening ceremonies kick off our sporting events on Saturday, May 27. Registration for sports closed on April 30, but you can still register for the human rights conference and purchase tickets for our cultural arts events. Q and A with Nathalia Arja

logo

The MBVCA sat down with Nathalia Arja, Principal Soloist for the Miami City Ballet, to discuss her love of Miami Beach and how she became a ballerina. The Miami City Ballet is located at 2200 Liberty Ave, Miami Beach. Make the Miami City Ballet a holiday treat for the whole family, as they present George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker® starting on Dec. 9. Tickets can be purchased here: https://www.miamicityballet.org/subscribe

What inspired you to become a ballet dancer?

I remember sitting next to my mother as a little kid, while she was teaching her dancers. What inspired my desire to dance was seeing their high energy and joy while executing really hard steps. I was fascinated by moving and what I felt watching them.

Why did you choose to perform in Miami Beach?

Well, when I was 15 I sent an audition DVD to the Miami City Ballet school. They offered me a full scholarship to study in the school. Most students hope to one day join the company. In 2009, I was chosen by the artistic director to join the company as an apprentice.

What do you love most about being in Miami Beach?

I have to say that Miami City Ballet is a lucky company because we are literally across the street from the beach. I love that on my break I can just go enjoy the ocean and relax. But my most favorite thing about South Beach is that you can just about walk anywhere as everything is close by. There are some very cozy neighborhoods.

What can Miami Beach expect with the new season?

Every season is exciting because our repertory is so diverse and this season is no different. We go from Giselle, which is a historic classic in the ballet world, and end up with the world premiere of Alexei Ratmansky’s, The Fairy’s Kiss. Of course you will be seeing great Balanchine ballets as well, so you’ll see a little bit of everything! We also have the open barre series, which is specifically built for arts education in Miami Beach. It’s a program we do only in Miami Beach twice a year at our intimate studio theatre, in which we have guest artists discuss their work while we perform short excerpts relevant to the upcoming programs. It’s definitely a great show for the community and a chance for them to see the dancers up close!

blog1216

What makes the Miami City Ballet a unique company?

Miami City Ballet is unique because it is a medium-large company that despite its size of 50 dancers, remains very united when it comes to support and emphasis on the success of the company rather than the individual. Ever since its inception, this has been at the heart of the company’s message: to have one soul made of a diverse roster of dancers, together under one banner for the sake of producing the art of the dance for the community at both a national and international level.

Miami Beach is known for its art scene, would you agree that performing arts and ballet are becoming more popular in our city?

It’s been so refreshing over the years. I’ve watched the art scene grow and become more diverse. It’s an honor to be a part of the Miami City Ballet which I feel is very important  for the Miami Beach art scene. I’m so proud of that!

A Q&A with Emilie Sobel from Soul in Stilettos

The MBVCA sat down with Emilie Sobel from the popular local fashion blog “Soul in Stilettos”. Emile shares her thoughts on top trends and talks about how her hometown has become a fashion industry hub. See what she had to say, and be sure to check out her blog: Soul in Stilettos.

What influences does Miami Beach offer to the fashion industry? Why is Miami Beach such a desirable destination for fashionistas? What is your take on Miami Beach’s influence on style and fashion trends?

Miami Beach offers so much to the fashion industry. People in this city are so not afraid to be themselves, which is what I love. We are open to embrace our personalities, wear what we want, stay out late, create and just have fun, which is so awesome. The fashion industry is often intimidating and cutthroat, but Miami allows these designers, creators, visionaries a place to kind of let loose and get inspiration from places otherwise ignored.  How could you not be inspired by the people and places of Wynwood? The craziness that is Collins Ave between 21st and 1st.

What fashion trends do you see blossoming this spring?

This spring, I think maxi dresses are going to make a comeback. They never necessarily went out of style, but I think they will be getting a ton of attention. The “boho chic” trend is always one of my favorites and maxi dresses are the easiest things to slip on and style up in warmer weather.

How has Miami Beach inspired you in your career as a blogger and in your collaborations with photographers, models, designers and makeup artists?

It’s almost impossible not to be inspired by Miami and the people in it. When I graduated, I was a little scared to come home knowing I didn’t have “connections” or friends like I did back in high school. Fortunately, there was nothing to be scared of. As soon as I put myself out there, people welcomed me and my brand with open arms, which was so amazing. People I knew from growing up were now working for big PR agencies and other companies that would end up being important to me. I connected with new and old friends, created relationships that started as friendships and happen to be beneficial to my career. Everyone I know in Miami is pretty amazing. These people are hard working, creative, fun and always up for adventure – which is what I love. Because I’ve surrounded myself with career-driven individuals, I’ve been able to wake up inspired every day, wanting to pursue current and new projects all the time. Everyone loves to use the term “never not working,” here in Miami. And it couldn’t be truer. Miami people are constantly looking for new project and opportunities. I love that so, so much.

Why do you love Miami Beach?

I love Miami first and foremost because it is home. I grew up here so I’ve seen it change and turn into this amazing city that it is today. It’s such a cool place to be a young, creative and ambitious individual and I think it is so important to surround yourself with things that inspire you. Miami is constantly supporting cool, new projects headed by cool, new people and to me that is so awesome. Miami is only getting bigger and better, what’s not to love about that?
